Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX
$50.00
Released October, 2006
The Pros:Very easy to setup--included clip fits on any type of monitor well. Great compatibility for a basic webcam--Mac, Windows, AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, and MSN Messenger. Built-in auto-compression works well with most email services.
The Cons:Limited movement options restrict the camera's viewpoint--lacks tilt, pan, zoom. Video appears blurry and choppy, as though the frames per second were far fewer than the advertised 30. RightLight technology doesn't work well in low light--picture is way too dark.
The Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX is a PC webcam featuring a high quality VGA sensor with Logitech's RightLight technology for enhanced image clarity, even in dim light. The fixed focus lens is capable of video capture of up to 640x480 pixels and 30 frames per second as well as 1.3 megapixel still images.

The webcam includes a built-in microphone with Logitech's RightSound technology which reduces echoing and background noise for clear conversations. The QuickCam Communicate STX is designed with an adjustable base that fits any monitor or laptop and a privacy shade which mutes the audio and video transfer when down. It also includes a snapshot button for taking still images and an activity light which indicated when the webcam is live. It comes with bonus photo-editing software and a 2 year limited warranty. Compared to the QuickCam Communicate MP this model has a lower sensor and image resolution but includes a snapshot button and activity light which the Communicate STX lacks.
