requires a fairly recent PC and fast internet connection to use effectively in full 720p mode - which is not often the case for those interested in such devices

#facevsion_touchcam_n1 I agree with you, David - I'm also waiting for the FreeTalk 7181.
However, for anyone who's ok with 22fps can now order it on skype.com. I just added the link.

#facevsion_touchcam_n1 As far as I understand, the PRO about two versions is not true. There were three HD cameras announced by Skype at CES 2010. THe FaceVsion N1, the FreeTalk 7170 and FreeTalk 7181. Those aren't full model names but the crucial differentiators are there. At cursory glance, they all support onboard H.264 encoding of video so that you can use a lower end computer and less CPU cycles. The are all 720p, though I say this grudgingly because the FaceVsion N1 is 22fps and I am of the belief that 720p must have both 720 progressive horizontal scan lines, as well as adhere to a film standard of 24 frames per second or a video standard of 30 fps(or any FPS higher). There is, as of yet, no details that I can find for the two FreeTalk cameras, but the FaceVsion has only 22fps which is close, but a rather odd number. Also, 22fps will probably not look very good as the human eye needs 60fps for something to seem truly fluid.. and 30fps is what I think is needed for a webcam to not have an obvious low fps look. It also simply seems like cheating to only offer 22 fps :). Beyond that they all have dual array mics with the except of the FreeTalk 7181 which I understand has 4 mics for better/longer pickup. I suppose it would be for a conference room type setup.
Having had the Microsoft LifeCam HD and returning it, I look forward to the upcoming cameras, mostly the 7181 because I would like to put it in the corner of my office but still be able to be heard. I have also thought about it for application in a mechanics garage for rudimentary filming of tutorials.
